Members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and other musicians will perform the first in a series of four summer concerts at Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum on Thursday, July 29 at 7:00pm. The featured performers are Vicens Prats, Principal Flautist with the Orchestre de Paris; Keisuke Wakao, assistant Principal Oboist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Principal Oboist of the Boston Pops Orchestra; William Hudgins, Principal Clarinetist of the BSO, and Edmund Arkus, Pianist, who has performed with Wakao on numerous occasions, as well as with the Orchestre de Paris and the BSO. The program consists of Trio Sonata in C minor for flute, oboe and piano by Quantz; Caprice on Danish and Russian Airs, Op. 79, and Flute Sonata, both by Poulenc; Carmen Fantasy for flute and piano by Bizet, and other music for soloists.
Our second concert will feature The Young Russian Cellists with Jakov Jakoulov accompanying on the piano, on Sunday August 1. Seven Russian students ages 11 – 17 will perform music of Bohuslav Marinu, Gabreil Faure, Karl Davidov, Petr I. Tchaikovsky, Gyorgy Ligeti and Manuel de Falla as well as music specifically written for the group by Jokoulov.
For the third concert, Wakao will be joined by Alex Velinzon, Violinist and BSO Assistant Concertmaster, Jonathan Bass, Pianist, and the BSO Cello Quartet on Monday, August 9. The Quartet includes Adam Esbensen, Blaise Dejardin, Alexandre Lecarme, and Mihail Jajatu. Selections will include Beethoven’s Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 5 n F Major (“Spring”), Tchaikivsky’s Melodie for Violin and Piano Op. 42, No. 3, and Saint-Saens’ Indroduction and Rondo Capriccioso for Violin and Piano Op. 28, The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart and more.
The final concert of the Summer Concert Series will be held on Monday, August 16, Wakao will be joined by Edmund Arkus, Pianist. The program includes, Cencerto for Oboe and Piano in C minor by Marcello, Sonata for Oboe and Piano in B flat Major K.378 by Mozart, Sonata for Oboe and Piano by Poulenc, Romance for Oboe and Piano “Einfach innig” Op. 94 and Concerto soppra motive dell’opera La Favorita di Donizetti” for Oboe and Piano.
JUST ANNOUNCED! In conjunction with Tanglewood's BUTI Young Artist Piano Program, Ventfort Hall will host a piano recital on August 13, 2010 at 4pm. The recital will be free with the cost of admission. A special tour of the house will be available at 3 and the recital will begin at 4. Admission price is $16.
